No, I'm not about to hate on you. Just some helpful hints to reduce frustration and increase your enjoyment of our city.
1) Fly in, don't drive in. You have door to door service between the airport and your hotel, including check in right at the airport in some cases.
2) If you must drive in, get a GPS or Mapquest your route FIRST, then park your car for the duration of your visit.
3) Stay in the slow lane on the freeway if you must drive.
4) Stay off of Las Vegas Blvd (The Strip) during peak drive times if you just have to drive around and sight see.
Why all the ignorant demands you ask? Because more often than you can imagine, drivers with California plates cause accidents, block traffic and cause hate and discontent because of a couple of habits they seem to have.
We see tons of California plates here because it's so easy to drive instead of fly.
Does that mean California drivers are bad drivers? Heck no. It just means they drive differently. Locals know where they are going, vacationers many times don't. Already in vacation mode, they tend to drive less aggressively.
Also, they don't remember to move over to let faster traffic pass and need to spend more time getting bearings. Sometimes they get involved in a downward spiral of angry (local) drivers doing stupid things to get around the now petrified California driver stopped in the middle of LVB afraid to move for fear of getting smashed by lunatics. (I witnessed this last night) Poor lady looked like she was about to cry.
Remember, where you are vacationing, others are commuting to work, sometimes late or tired or just cranky. Just like you, in your town.

Re: Notice to Californians Vacationing in LV
Wed, May 20, 2009 - 8:56 PMSeriously, if you choose to drive the I-15 northbound:
Please don't drive in clusters @ 65 MPH!!!! There's a slow lane and there's even a "slower lane" for trucks through most of that drive past Barstow.
Believe it or not, the CHP patrol is okay there. They got better things to do then bust your ass for driving two miles faster than the posted speed limit. He doesn't want to have to drive all the way back to Barstow just to drop off your paperwork.
Take pit stops. Baker and Primm have some nice eats one the way. It also gives you a chance to take in some scenery and get yourself oriented.
I make this commute from San Diego to Las Vegas on a weekly basis. I do most of my driving at night (it's cooler and usually less people). But every weekend I find that every 10-15 miles I run up on a pack of drivers clustered together in all (but the truck lane)... Every one of them with Cali plates.
